I've been meaning to start this blog for ages, but between transitioning from part-time University English teacher - and garage-band weekend warrior - to making music full-time, getting the hang of married / adult life, and being angry about the Arkham Knight PC port being broken, the day planner I should probably have bought has been overfull (metaphorically, of course; I really should get a day planner).
Now that I've angered myself by having a single inelegant sentence serve as a paragraph, I should probably announce the purpose of this blog (which I will doubtlessly fail to stick to): to track the progress of one untrained (formally, at least) musician trying to navigate the treacherous waters of sample library addiction, clients who don't speak great English, alternative revenue streams, game audio middle-ware, scammy companies trying to take my money, infrequent live shows and the general minutia of trying to not sink in the quicksand of the digital music landscape. Phew. Whoever narrates the inevitable audio-book adaptation of all this is going to need Olympic-grade lung capacity. And lunch capacity, because he's getting paid in McDonald's. Sorry, Brian Blessed (presumably).
I'll also look at trying to maintain far too many projects, using social media as someone who is terrified of impersonal digital communication, as well as the ups and downs of digital distribution and music licensing.
But, above all, I aim to be reviewing my favorite sample libraries as often as time allows. Because I really, really love them, and I want you to love them, too.
Okay, enough of this for now. I just finished my taxes (which suddenly got interesting and horrifying the moment I became a freelancer) so I'm going to drink some Gluhwein and look out of my window at the raised traffic circle that drunk idiots crash into at least once a night. Entertainment doesn't have to be expensive, kids.
Until next time,
Deon
